Jeepster Commando

The Commando back in 1977

The Beloved Jeepster Commando: A Family Legacy
The cherished Jeepster Commando from 1972 holds a special place in my father's heart. It was his first car, purchased in 1974, and it has become a symbol of his passion for automobiles. Over the years, he acquired various vehicles and motorcycles, but the Commando has remained a steadfast companion, standing the test of time.

This Jeep served as my father's hands-on classroom for learning mechanics. I vividly recall him disassembling and reassembling it multiple times, honing his skills with each endeavor. It was on this very vehicle that I began to learn the intricacies of automotive repair, from fixing the brakes to overhauling the engine and everything in between. As a child, I was captivated by my father's work on the Jeep, often asking to lend a hand. Although I was too young to contribute meaningfully at the time, my enthusiasm only grew as I became more involved.

The restoration of the Commando took place between 2005 and 2006. As you can see in the accompanying gallery, the Jeep was beginning to show its age. My father had plans to paint and restore it, but work commitments distracted him. Seizing the opportunity, I stepped in with the goal of making the Commando my first vehicle as well. This Jeep is not just a car; it is a testament to our family's shared love for mechanics and the memories we have created together.

Regrettably, several of the final photographs documenting the restoration were lost due to a computer malfunction. Since I no longer have the Jeep nearby, I am unable to capture new images. However, I remain hopeful that one day I will have the opportunity to reunite with the Commando and document its journey once more
