Artist Fernando Maldonado 07/17

Visual Artist: The interest in pictorial figuration—based on the idea of the artist as a witness to scenes projected in his mind and reconstructed through painting. And another, no less essential, aspect, present in the abstract interpretation of surfaces, the texture of certain areas, the sweep, the glaze—elements of identification in themselves. Every "realistic" painting is not a copy of the sensible world, but rather a subjective and individual interpretation. The themes are pretexts for the form, matter, and execution of the painting. However, we can read in them and perceive clues such as the totalizing attempt to include painting within painting, or art within painting, evident in artifacts such as rugs and decorative elements, which were originally works of art by famous artists and appear here reduced to a simple utilitarian function, demystified and questioned. Time and its matter made into paint.
