Ideas driven
by challenges.

Prodehogar is a Colombian company focused on providing affordable home products accessible to all socioeconomic groups. The goal of this project was to redesign a grocery cart that met strict cost and manufacturing limitations while maintaining quality, usability, and durability.

The final design successfully balanced cost-efficiency, functionality, and manufacturability, while incorporating a user-centric improvement that added value without increasing complexity or production costs.

The cart has been on the market since 2006 and continues to serve Colombian households as a reliable, practical, and affordable solution.

Client Constraints

The design brief came with several non-negotiable requirements:

No new plastic components could be designed or modified. Only existing parts from other products of the company could be used.

he frame had to be lightweight and manufacturable in-house using existing tooling and processes.

The canvas bag needed to have minimal anchor points but be strong enough to carry a full load of groceries.

The cart had to be foldable for compact storage.

When not in use, it needed the option to hang from a door knob for convenience.

In addition to meeting all client requirements, I introduced an added functionality:

The cart includes an integrated umbrella holder, allowing users to carry an umbrella hands-free without impacting mobility or comfort.

This feature enhances user convenience during rainy seasons, a common concern for Colombian shoppers.
