Scale Models

A long-life Hobby and custom builds for collectors and museums

"Scale Modeling is the art and craft of creating realistic small-scale replicas of original objects for display.” Making miniatures involves a wide range of skills. The building process is a mix of craftsmanship and engineering. It involves the construction of a highly detailed three-dimensional parts that comes out of a box. Scale models are constructed of plastic, wood, or metal. They are usually painted with enamel, lacquer, or acrylics. Model prototypes include all types of vehicles (railroad trains, cars, trucks, military vehicles, aircraft, and spacecraft), buildings, people, and science fiction themes.

Through a unique combination of expertise, a great number of skills and techniques , trials and errors, long hours of research, problem-solving process, a lot of patience, a huge collection of tools (that never are enough) to obtain a great result and a model that surpasses all expectations.

There is little doubt that scale modeling is an art.

Art, in scale modeling, can focus more on the painting and setting part, as it is the moment where the interpretation, imagination and creativity of a subject can be applied. The artistic side is freer and many interpretations and styles can be made. Techniques such as dry brushing, various painting techniques, filters and weathering can transform a model, making it completely original and giving it a 'wow' factor.

We can say that a model can become a work of art, depending on the modeler. A model alone, on a shelf, has emotional and artistic value for its owner, but when that same model is accompanied by a whole setting, context and situation, which communicates a story to anyone who observes the model, that is art!

I use this words  to encompass normal construction, assembly,   scratch builds, dioramas  and painting.

Models are smaller versions of the original and every components  must be to the same scale

In simple terms it is a recreation of a real object, if we develop an artistic impression it would take us out of the reach of a scale replica, wherever trying to make an exact realistic copy is essential.

This is important because a fundamental aspect of the hobby is producing models for display. Either a remote control model or a model of a railway, but in making the model there is usually a commitment to realism. Mostly all modelers have a showcase at home to display the models.

In 2015 I decided to share all my scale model knowledge. So the guide “Model Guides” was born. Is a complete step by step showcase from beginner to expert level of scale modeling, It includes 17 HD videos  5 Hours and more than 200  illustrated pages that will help anybody interested in scale modeling to learn or to get better in this great hobby.
